BOONTON - A Boonton Township police officer and another motorist escaped serious injury after several trees blew over during this weekend’s windstorm.

Boonton Police Sgt. Andrew Tintle was traveling along Rockaway Valley Road Sunday morning on his way to a call when strong winds caused large trees to snap and fall across the road.

Sgt. Tintle was able to avoid striking the large tree trunk, but another motorist was not so lucky.

According to police, a Chevy pick-up truck struck the tree and briefly became airborne before landing on top of the tree.
