FAIR LAWN - Police are urging Fair Lawn homeowners to be on alert after an elderly couple was burglarized by men posing as utility workers.

"We have had a few thefts over the years," says Harry Nass, of Fair Lawn. "Being cautious is the name of the game. I have cameras on my house. If they choose to come in, they'll be videotaped first."

Police are asking residents to ask for identification and the reason for the visit if anyone knocks on their door claiming to be from a utility company.

You can also call the utility directly to verify the visit, or if anything seems strange, call the police.
