FREEHOLD - A Facebook campaign is being waged against the upscale dress shop Diane & Co. Unique Boutique, which is located in Freehold and is featured on the Oxygen television show "Jersey Couture."
The campaign started after Jackie Genovese, the girlfriend of a Jackson Memorial High School student, who was killed in a car crash, wanted to return her prom dress. Genovese purchased the dress at Diane & Co. and received a store credit when she returned it, instead of a refund.
Genovese says she wanted to use the money to help pay for her boyfriend's funeral. Her friends have now launched the campaign to boycott the dress shop.
Owner of Diane and Company, Diane Scali, says she's not concerned about the online boycott because she knows her regular customers have faith in her way of doing business.
Diane's daughter, Christina, who also works at the shop, says that if Genovese's mother came in and spoke with them, they would have given the money back. They say that Genovese's family was hostile and insincere.
