HILLSBOROUGH - The 73-year-old pilot of a small plane that crashed in Hillsborough Wednesday morning is recovering from his injuries.

News 12 New Jersey spoke with Victor Holmlund's sons this afternoon at the scene of the crash. They said their father has flown all over the country in a plane that he built himself.

Holmlund’s plane crashed into a field after taking off from Central Jersey Regional Airport in Manville. He said a plane malfunction caused the crash.

People who live near the airport say they are used to hearing planes overhead, but they knew something was wrong when they heard Holmlund’s plane struggling.

The pilot’s sons say he was battered and bruised, but is expected to be OK.
