Experts: Jersey Shore beaches in best shape since Superstorm Sandy

Most of the replenished beaches are 150 to 200 feet wide. (5/19/14)

LAVALETTE - Experts say the Jersey Shore beaches are ready for summer, and in the best shape since Superstorm Sandy.

Officials cite a massive replenishment project for bringing the beaches back to their former glory, and some residents say the beaches look even better than they did before the storm hit.

Beaches in Lavellette have undergone a huge change and now have dunes with freshly planted grass and a new boardwalk to greet visitors this Memorial Day.

Researchers say the replenishment project worked to keep nor'easters away from the beaches to avoid more damage.

Some residents say the credit also belongs to the positive attitude that came over the surrounding areas.
