EDISON - Former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey has been denied a bid for priesthood.

According to the New York Post, McGreevey was refused priesthood with the Episcopalian Church. He began his studies at the General Theological Seminary in Manhattan in 2007.

He was reportedly turned down because of his bitter divorce from his wife, Dina, after declaring he was a "gay American."

McGreevey resigned from his gubernatorial position in 2004.
