TRENTON - (AP) - A former New Jersey assemblyman snared inthe state's largest corruption sting is going to prison for 41months.

A federal judge in Trenton on Friday sentenced Daniel Van Peltfor bribery and attempted extortion. The former lawmaker from OceanCounty must turn himself in after the holidays.

Van Pelt tearfully told the judge he was a trustworthy guy andnever believed anyone would try to bribe him.

Prosecutors said the 46-year-old accepted $10,000 in cash inexchange for his assistance in securing government approvals forpurported real estate projects in Waretown.

Van Pelt testified he considered the payment from governmentinformant Solomon Dwek to be a consulting fee.
