NEWARK - Prosecutors say arrests have been made in the recent shooting deaths of two students.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray gave details at a news conference Monday afternoon.

Three arrests were announced in the murder of Brendan Tevlin, a 19-year-old Livingston resident who had just completed his first year at the University of Richmond. He was found shot to death in his car in West Orange on June 25.

Ali Muhammad Brown, 29, of Seattle, was arrested on murder, robbery and weapons charges. He was linked to the case when it was discovered that the gun used to kill Tevlin was the same weapon used in two murders in Washington state. Two West Orange men, Jeremy Villagran, 19, and Eric Williams, 18, will face the same charges in the Tevlin case. Police say Villagran is a resident of the apartment complex on Northfield Avenue where Tevlin was found.

Murray says the three suspects surrounded Tevlin's car before Brown opened fire, shooting the teen eight times. His family says he was the victim of a random and senseless murder.

Andre Fields, 31, of Irvington, was arrested and charged in the death of 17-year-old Cheyanne Bond, who was headed to college in September. Fields faces a first-degree murder charge in addition to robbery and weapons charges. Bonds and a 17-year-old male friend were walking on South 17th Street in Newark on June 29 when they were were approached by two men who tried to rob them of an iPhone. Both were shot, but the friend survived his injuries.

The second suspect in the deadly Newark robbery is still at large.

All four suspects are being held at the Essex County Jail. Fields, Villagran and Williams are being held on $1 million bail. Brown's bail was set at $5 million.

The suspects are expected to make court appearances on Aug. 6.

Prosecutors say there is no link between the deaths.
