NEWARK - Essex County College’s Newark campus will remain closed Tuesday following a fire in an electrical room Sunday.

Officials say that workers reported a possible electrical fire in the sub-basement of a building. The building was evacuated as firefighters battled the flames. Thirteen firefighters were hospitalized after suffering heat exhaustion.

The campus was closed Monday and will remain closed for Tuesday.

School officials say that the closure only affects the Newark campus. West Essex campus and the Public Safety Academy will remain opened.
