PISCATAWAY - Eric LeGrand received a standing ovation when he took the stage at the Rutgers graduation ceremony in Piscataway Sunday.

The thousands of college students who filled High Point Solutions Stadium for their diplomas heard the former Scarlet Knights football player speak about his efforts after becoming paralyzed during a game.

"I hope you guys continue to believe in me, believe in yourselves... ‘cause we're all going to change the world together,” said LeGrand.

Former Gov. Tom Kean was also a commencement speaker.

No reference was made about former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice backing out as a commencement speaker amid protests by some students and faculty. The controversy surrounded her involvement with the Iraq War.
