ELMWOOD PARK - Elmwood Park's police chief and a lieutenant were supervising a DWI checkpoint that was set up between midnight and 4 a.m. this past Saturday when they say their police car was struck by a drunken driver.

The police chief, Don Ingrasselino, says the car came up at about 65-70 mph and struck them and continued on. Ingrasselino says the police car had a blown-out tire, but continued chasing the driver. He says Josef Kopinec was arrested a few miles away. He says the front end of his SUV was smashed. Police say they found an open can of beer in the front seat.
