Elizabeth police director discusses rising murder rate

ELIZABETH - Elizabeth Police Director James Cosgrove met with community leaders this evening to discuss the rise in murders this year.

There have been 14 murders this year in Elizabeth, including two this week. There were as many murders for the entirety of 2010.

In response to the staggering statistic, Cosgrove assured community leaders that the number of community service officers will be increased. These officers meet with more than 25 civic groups around the city, looking for tips on cases.

Many residents say they are happy to see the increase in patrols, but want to see results since a number of the murders in Elizabeth go unsolved.
