Elderly sisters scare off would-be carjacker

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP - Authorities say two elderly sisters scared off an armed would-be carjacker by hitting him and screaming.

Hamilton Township police say the women, ages 93 and 94, returned to their car after shopping Saturday at a drug store in town. When they got in their car, they found 27-year-old Sergio Fernando Solorzano-Vasquez of Trenton in the back seat, waving a knife in a threatening manner.

The 94-year-old behind the wheel threw her arm back and hit the man while her sister started screaming. The commotion drew the attention of a passer-by who came to the sisters' aid, spurring the suspect to flee.

Solorzano-Vasquez was later captured at a township home and charged with attempted carjacking, aggravated assault and weapons offenses.
