Edison woman killed in Route 1 crash

EDISON - Police say an Edison woman was killed in an early morning crash on Route 1 after a car spun off the roadway, taking down poles and wires.

Witnesses told News 12 New Jersey that a woman, who has been identified as 21-year-old Bianca Yodice was struck by a Lexus driven by Cynthia Polynice, 25, from Iselin, at the intersection of Route 1 and Old Post Road. Police say Yodice was crossing against traffic.

Police say Yodice was dragged several hundred feet before the Lexus overturned and careened into a utility pole and several parked cars at a BMW dealership.

Yodice was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say the accident happened at 5:45 a.m. as she was walking to work at a day care center in Edison.

Police were forced to shut down the road for several hours.

They say no citations have been issued to the driver.
