EDISON - A beloved member of the Edison Police Department has passed away.

K-9 Koda, an 8-year-old German shepherd, died on Monday from natural causes.

Koda had been with the department since 2006. The K9, assigned to Ptl. Robert Ellmyer Jr., was a certified Narcotics Detection Canine as well as a Police Service Dog.

"Koda has been an integral part of the overall police operation for many years. "In addition, Koda was loved by many of our citizens especially the children who had the opportunity see him during his many demonstrations at various community events over his career."
