Edison mom wants action taken over bullied daughter

EDISON - Edwina Speights says her 11-year-old daughter is being bullied at school and that raising the issue with school officials has gotten nothing done.

Speights says her daughter's classmate has been bullying her for months, to the point where she's too scared to go to school some days. According to Speights, contacting officials at James Madison Intermediate School has gotten her nowhere.

"When you have a child that's scared of another child and it's been going on for so long and nobody says anything to try to stop it, basically there's no concern," said Speights.

A spokesperson for the Edison Police Department says detectives have looked into the incident and that a mediation hearing has been set for next week.

Calls from News 12 New Jersey to the Edison district's business administrator have been unanswered.
