EAST ORANGE - An Essex County postal carrier is being called a hero after he saved the life of one of his residents.
Garfield Scott was on his route last week when the daughter of one of the people on his route told him that her dad was not answering his phone and she couldn’t get into his home.
Scott, who is also an EMT, was able to force his way inside and found the 87-year-old man collapsed on the floor. Scott called 911 and performed CPR until the man regained consciousness.
“I’m just happy that I was in the right place at the right time,” Scott said.
The man is now recovering in the hospital. He is undergoing rehabilitation following a stroke.
After the man went to the hospital, Scott continued delivering the mail.
