EAST ORANGE - Police officers in East Orange say they are being asked to fulfill ticket-writing quotas.

Councilwoman Alicia Holman is calling for an investigation into what she says is the harassment of citizens and the intimidation of officers. "Our officers are being threatened, disciplined, or brought up on charges for neglect of duty," she says.

A spokesperson for the police department says there is no quota, since requiring officers to write a certain number of tickets is illegal. The spokesperson also said that the officers behind the accusation simply may not be doing their jobs.

The accusing officers say they are being bullied into writing more tickets, and that they fear disciplinary action if they don't comply.
