East Orange Campus H.S. seniors swapping textbooks for tablets

EAST ORANGE - Seniors at East Orange Campus High School are taking part in a new program that puts tablet devices into the hands of students.

The school partnered with Verizon Wireless to give Samsung Galaxy tablets to more than 450 students.

School officials say the goal of the program is to allow students to have access to resources that go beyond textbooks and school-based media.

Makeba McCray, the program's brainchild and technology coordinator, says measures have been put into place to prevent students from using the tablets for non-school related uses.
