EAST RUTHERFORD - Seven employees of the U.S. Ink Plant in East Rutherford were injured today in a chemical explosion in the pre-mis room of the plant.

The explosion occurred at 1:15 p.m. inside the plant. Fire officials say ink powder used inside the plant contains carbon. Officials believe the dust may have ignited, leading to an explosion and a fire.

The plant has been evacuated. No firefighters were injured in the incident.

The U.S. Ink Plant is a Sun Chemical company. They produce black newspaper printing ink by blending carbon black with other components.
