SHORT HILLS - Prosecutors have identified the victim in a fatal carjacking outside The Mall at Short Hills.

Authorities in Essex County say 30-year-old Hoboken resident Dustin Friedland was shot in the Nordstrom parking garage after 9 p.m. Sunday. He was pronounced dead at Morristown Medical Center shortly before midnight.

Friedland was shot in the head in front of his wife, who was not wounded. He was rushed to the hospital but died two and a half hours later.

Police say two men drove off in the couple's silver 2012 Range Rover. The SUV was found Monday morning in Newark, behind a vacant home on Renner Avenue, a few blocks from Interstate 78, and about 8 miles from the mall.

Authorities are still looking for two men who confronted the couple.

Friedland was an attorney for Epich Mechanical. Police say he may have struggled with his assailants.

Mall employees told News 12 New Jersey they are changing their habits since learning of the shooting. "You wouldn't expect it from this kind of mall," says Al-Shakirr Potts.

Police and sheriff's officers joined private security in patrolling mall property Monday night.

The Essex County Sheriff's Crime Stoppers program is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspects in the incident.
