MONMOUTH COUNTY - More DUI checkpoints will be set up around Monmouth County this holiday season after 29 police departments received state grants to expand their efforts.

The increase is part of the annual "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" initiative.

"That means we can put more police on the street, pay more overtime, have more checkpoints and be more vigilant and try to keep people who are drinking and driving or driving under the influence off of our roads," says acting prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni.

Each department received $4,400 from the state. The drunken driving crackdown runs through Jan. 2.
