SAYREVILLE - Some drivers spent hours on the Garden State Parkway stranded behind stalled buses blocking the roadway.

Turnpike Authority officials say the cars got stuck behind other vehicles, including buses that spun out and blocked the road. The Turnpike Authority's plows trying to clear the situation also got stuck.

Some cars wound up being stuck on the Parkway for more than 16 hours.

State Police began to shuttle drivers to the Cheesequake Rest Area, but they had to leave their cars on the road until they could be towed, and the Parkway plowed.
