LITTLE FERRY - A pickup truck driver had a close call Saturday after crashing on Route 46 in Little Ferry and nearly driving off a bridge over the Hackensack River.
Authorities responded to the scene just before 3 p.m.
Officials say the pickup truck was towing a Jeep while traveling westbound on Route 46 when he encountered some traffic. The truck's brakes locked up and skidded 100 feet, hitting two other cars in the process. The truck lost control and crossed over into the eastbound lanes before crashing through the side wall of the bridge.
The truck became caught up in the scaffolding of a billboard. The driver of the truck was able to climb out and get to the billboard, saving his own life. The Little Ferry Fire Department came and rescued him from the billboard.
The driver of the truck was not injured, but three people from the other cars hit were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for minor injuries.
All lanes of Route 46 have since reopened.
