Dozens of syringes found on Island Beach State Park shoreline
ISLAND BEACH STATE PARK - The Department of Environmental Protection says 37 syringes were found along a 10-mile stretch of Island Beach State Park Friday.
Officials say debris and plastic garbage also washed up at the Ocean County park.
The discovery of medical waste prompted a full canvas of the shoreline Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

No additional syringes were found, and the beaches were never closed.
The DEP says a sewer overflow following heavy rains and onshore winds was likely the cause of the debris.
