NEWARK - Dozens of passengers were treated for injuries after a New Jersey Transit bus crashed into a tree in Newark.

The accident happened just before 2 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Lyons Avenue and Wainwright Street.

Witnesses say that passengers had to climb out of the windows to get out and were seen huddled off to the side with blankets while emergency crews checked on them.

All of the passengers were taken to local hospitals to be evaluated. Many of the passengers had minor bumps and bruises, but at least two people were treated for broken bones.

None of the injuries were considered to be life-threatening.

The Newark Police Department is investigating the accident.
