PERTH AMBOY - Dozens of cats were killed after a fire broke out at a home in Perth Amboy.

The fire along Barry Avenue started around 1:30 p.m. Monday. The fire seems to have started in the kitchen, according to fire officials. The homeowners were not home at the time.

Firefighters say there were at least 30 cats inside the home. Firefighters were able to resuscitate some of the cats, but many died in the fire.

The home will most likely need to be demolished. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
