MONTVALE - Two women from the same Montvale church now share a bond as strong as their faith.
Last week, Dot Elwood became a living kidney donor for Jennifer Phillips who suffers from a type of kidney disease that meant most of her own relatives were unsuitable.
Phillips says Elwood's generosity has been overwhelming. "The enormity of it hasn't fully penetrated," she says. "Because why would someone who's healthy consent to having an organ taken?"
Both women belong to Montvale Evangelical Free Church, where many congregants knew of Jennifer's need through postings on Facebook.
Elwood says she made the decision despite her daughters' objections. "I thought, I answer to a higher authority and if this is what God is leading me to do, then you girls will just have to live with it."
