EDISON - A Bergen County woman claims her brother was abused at a South Jersey psychiatric hospital.

Donna Salvato says her brother, Chris Mullins, a developmentally disabled patient at Ancora Psychiatric Hospital, has been hurt during his stay and may have been assaulted by a staff member.

She says her brother's recent problems came in the last few weeks, but since he is his own guardian, she cannot get answers from the hospital.

Salvato says Chris may have banged his head and not received proper care under Danielle's Law. She claims conditions at the hospital have made him suicidal.

Officials at the Department of Human Services, which is in charge of the hospital, said they would look into the incident.

In 2012, the US Justice Department closed an investigation at the hospital after six patients died in a 20 month period. Officials said conditions improved, but also said patients were put at undue risk of harm.
