NEWARK - The Associated Humane Societies in Newark says it is offering a reward for information after a young pitbull mix was found impaled on a fence.

According to Animal Control Officer Lawrence Freeman, he was called to Weequahic Park last week to rescue the dog, who he says was hanging with part of the fence sticking straight through her body, about an inch from her stomach.

Freeman says he was able to get the pup, named Marvel, off the fence and take her to a shelter. He says she is being treated and is expected to recover.

Officials say they don't believe the pitbull tried to jump over the fence, but that someone tried to throw her over it. The Humane Society says the reward is $100 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved.
