SEASIDE HEIGHTS - A man who climbed atop the Jet Star roller coaster that was swept into the ocean during Hurricane Sandy and unfurled an American flag there will face a disorderly conduct charge.

Thirty-eight-year-old Christopher Angulo, of Lavallette, used a canoe to reach the site Tuesday morning. After putting the flag in place, he left the coaster and hopped into a police boat. He was then handcuffed, walked through the surf and escorted to a police car on the beach in Seaside Heights.

Angulo says he acted to raise awareness for shore recovery. The remnants of the Jet Star Roller Coaster have become one of the iconic images of the hurricane.

Seaside Heights police officials say that no further charges will likely be filed against Angulo.
