EDISON - Two separate incidents led to major delays for commuters headed into New York City and got one motorist arrested.

A westbound New Jersey Transit North Jersey Coast Line train with 200 passengers broke down in the Hudson River rail tunnel at 7:05 a.m. Monday. NJ Transit spokeswoman Jennifer Nelson says the passengers were taken to Secaucus once the train began moving and it was out of the tunnel by 8:40 a.m.

There were rail delays of up to an hour.

Meanwhile, NJ Transit's buses that were bound for New York diverted to Secaucus Junction because a car caught fire in the New Jersey bound tube just before 7 a.m.

The tunnel reopened by 8:20 a.m.

Port Authority Police spokesman Joe Pentangelo says police checking on motorists found a 61-year-old New York City man smoking a marijuana cigarette. He was charged with possessing a small amount of marijuana and driving under the influence.
