LINDEN - Fire crews say they have removed the body of a 54-year-old man from a house fire in Linden.
The fire on Keep Street was reported by neighbors just after 3 p.m. Neighbors say the man was disabled and could not walk easily.
Officials say firefighters knew someone was likely trapped inside the home, but were unable to get past the heavy fire, smoke and heat conditions when they arrived on the scene.
"The house was heavily loaded with furniture and belongings," Linden Fire Chief Joseph Dooley said. "It made it difficult to access the house and access the individual."
A woman who was home but not inside when the fire started was not injured. The fire, which is under investigation, did not affect any of the surrounding structures.
