SECAUCUS - Developers want to construct two park-and-ride lots near the Secaucus Junction train station that would add 4,100 spaces for commuters headed to New York City.

Edison Properties envisions converting a warehouse into an indoor and outdoor parking facility that could accommodate 1,110 vehicles. Secaucus Brownfields Redevelopment plans to spend about $40 million to offer more than 3,000 spaces on a landfill.

Secaucus Brownfields co-owner Greg Allen tells The Record newspaper the lot could certainly change commuting patterns. The company believes it will have tremendous benefits in communities where commuters would normally drive into Manhattan.

Both projects will require regulatory approval and construction is not expected any time soon.
