JERSEY CITY - Emotional goodbyes were exchanged today as nearly 170 Army National Guard soldiers are leaving New Jersey, bound for the Persian Gulf.

A deployment ceremony was held in Jersey City to send off the 2-113th Infantry Battalion. The soldiers will provide security for a U.S. Navy facility in Bahrain for the next year.

Family, friends and children gathered to say farewell to their heroes. Among those saying a tearful so-long was young Kyle Ramos, whose uncle, Staff Sgt. Richard Ramos, is headed out with the group.

"He's very special," Kyle Ramos said of his uncle through tears. It marks the second deployment for Staff Sgt. Ramos, who said, "I'm proud to be his hero. I'm proud that everything I've done has tried to set the way for him, so he can have a better life."
