NEWARK - The four New Jersey Democrats seeking their party's nomination in a special U.S. Senate election faced off for the final time in a debate Thursday night.

The event, held at the WBGO-FM studios in Newark, marked the second time all four hopefuls debated during the campaign to complete the term of the Sen. Frank Lautenberg. Rep. Frank Pallone, Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver and Rep. Rush Holt joined Newark Mayor Cory Booker.

"The mayor talks about how he's hands-on, but he's not even in Newark at least 20 percent of the time," says Pallone.

The candidates discussed hot issues, including climate change and immigration, as well as the legacy of Sen. Lautenberg.

Primary voting is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Alieta Eck and Steve Lonegan are seeking the Republican nomination to run in the Oct. 16 general election.
