EDGEWATER - Demolition crews have begun to knock down the remains of the Avalon at Edgewater apartment complex, which was destroyed in a massive fire in January.
The work is expected to take at least three months to complete. Work to fix the other parts of the complex could begin Monday.
Some of the residents tell News 12 New Jersey they are upset they will not be allowed on the property to salvage some of their belongings. Property management says there is very little left.
The fire started after maintenance workers were doing plumbing work inside the walls. The fire quickly spread, engulfing the entire building. Nearly 1,000 people were displaced.
