TRENTON - Moments after Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.) finished his first State of the State address, state Democrats offered tough criticism of his speech.

State Senate President Steve Sweeney called Christie's speech "another shell game. In Chris Christie's world, he wants you to believe that, but in the real world, it doesn't happen."

Christie's plan for New Jersey schools, heavy on charter schools and heavy-handed on teacher tenure, wasn't popular either.

Republicans that News 12 New Jersey spoke with called the speech inspiring.

The governor will address lawmakers again next month to lay out his budget.
