NEWARK - Defense attorneys and prosecutors in the Bridge-Gate case say that they jointly eliminated 114 people from the jury pool Monday.

Officials say that there are 60 potential jurors who have so far not raised any objection to serving in the case. Those potential jurors will face questions from attorneys in Newark federal court Tuesday.

Attorneys for Bridget Kelly and Bill Baroni said Monday that their clients will take the stand in their defense.

Kelly and Baroni face charges related to the closure of George Washington Bridge access lanes in Fort Lee. Prosecutors allege that the lanes were closed in order to punish Democratic Mayor Mark Sokolich for refusing to endorse Gov. Chris Christie in his 2013 re-election campaign.

Kelly is the governor’s former deputy chief of staff. Baroni was deputy executive director of the Port Authority, which operates the bridge.

Gov. Christie, a Republican, hasn’t been charged but could be subpoenaed to testify.

Opening statements in the trial are expected to begin Sept. 19.
