Debate over fluoride in NJ drinking water bubbles up

EDISON - Advocates of fluoridated water say New Jersey is behind the times while opponents say the fluoride could be dangerous.

It's an issue that's been debated in New Jersey for decades. Now, a New Jersey Assembly committee has advanced a bill that would mandate fluoride in the public water supply.

The director of the Sierra Club of New Jersey, Jeff Tittle, says that the legislature should be looking to remove toxic chemicals from the drinking water, not adding them.

Dr. Charles Perle, a general dentist, says that fluoridation is proven to be the least expensive and most effective way to prevent dental disease.
