MILLSTONE - A bus crash in Vermont has claimed the life of a New Jersey husband and father of 11 children.
Evelyn Hannah says she's still numb from the shock of learning her husband of 34 years, Darnell Howard Hannah, was killed when the bus he was driving crashed. "It's just hard to accept," she says.
Hannah, 59, was driving a tour bus up an icy hillside late Friday night. At the top of the hill, he suddenly crashed into a tractor-trailer that was jackknifed in the middle of the road.
Friend and fellow truck driver Nick Leach believes Hannah hit the guard rail to slow the bus down. "And the pictures I've seen on the Internet, it looks like he bounced off the back of the trailer," he says.
Leach says Hannah must have sustained the impact and that's why he got trapped in the bus. All 30 passengers on board survived. Vermont State Police say ice was a factor but continue to investigate.
Hannah leaves behind a large and unique family of five biological and six adopted special needs children of various races. The youngest is 10 years old.
