NORTH PLAINFIELD - Customers of a North Plainfield dry cleaner are beginning to get their clothes back after the shop closed unexpectedly last week.
Dozens of customers showed up to retrieve their garments from Any Garment $1.99 Cleaners on Route 22 and were greeted by a "for lease" sign.
Barry Scherer, the bankruptcy trustee appointed to the case, told News 12 New Jersey Tuesday that the store filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy back in June. The filing was converted to Chapter 7 last week, which meant the store was in liquidation and had to close.
The bankruptcy closing was sudden, and some customers found their clothes hadn't even been cleaned.
Customers had to pre-pay at Any Garment cleaners and those whose clothes were not cleaned did not get refunds. Instead, they were told they have to file a claim with the bankruptcy court.
Scherer says customers can expect to retrieve their clothing through 5 p.m. on Saturday.
