MONMOUTH COUNTY - A bride-to-be who was scrambling for a replacement after a popular bakery suddenly closed has accepted a generous offer.

Amanda Gonzalez and her fiance Mike Cashin had ordered Rainbow Cookie and Red Velvet oversized cupcakes from Crumbs Bake Shop instead of a traditional cake. They were to be placed on a special light-up roller coaster display for their July wedding at Morey's Pier in Wildwood.

The couple placed their order six months ago at the Crumbs inside the Freehold Raceway Mall. The store is now empty, shelves cleared and the security gate down.

"I was just devastated, didn't know what to do, started crying," says Gonzalez . "I was, 'Oh my God we have two weeks until the wedding... what are we going to do now?'"

That's when Marianne Cyran, owner of Homemade by Marianne in Woodbridge Township, stepped in. She offered Gonzalez and Cashin 100 cupcakes of their choice for their wedding.

"They can set them up on their roller coaster," says Cyran. "But their wedding shouldn't be a roller coaster worrying about cupcakes."

The New York City-based Crumbs said all employees were notified of the closures Monday.

Crumbs listed 10 locations across New Jersey on its website. The company was founded in 2003 and went public in 2011, selling giant cupcakes in flavors including Cookie Dough and Girl Scouts Thin Mints. More recently, however, it had been suffering from a steep decline in sales.

At the end of last year, the company employed 165 full-time employees and 655 part-timers.

As for the bride- and groom-to-be, Gonzalez says luckily no deposit was required so they were not out any money. They just wish the company had told her sooner.
