MAPLEWOOD - Crime is on the rise in Mapleton's East Hilton neighborhood, which borders Irvington.

The town has seen an increase in burglaries and assaults. Neighbors also say late night noise, partying and fighting have become a problem.

The chief of police says the area has become a special patrol zone due to the increased crime.

In the first nine months of this year, 44 adults were arrested, compared to just 31 in the same timeframe the year before.

The chief of police says neighbors watching each other's homes and partnering with the police department is key to keeping the neighborhood safe.
