NEWARK - One year after a huge police bust, violent crime is down in one of Newark's most dangerous drug dens.

Newark's Police Director Garry McCarthy says the Garden Spires high-rise apartments have been murder and shooting-free for a year now after a major sweep last March netted authorities more than 150 arrests.

McCarthy says the department has been able to eliminate the narcotics market by arresting the worst drug dealers, and keeping uniformed officers at Garden Spires to discourage people from buying there.
