Gas leak forces evacuations in Newark

NEWARK - Authorities have capped a gas leak that forced the evacuation of dozens of people in Newark on Wednesday.

PSE&G says a contractor working on Doremus and Wilson avenues struck a gas main early in the morning, causing the leak.

Emergency crews worked to isolate the break and bring the leak under control.

Approximately 80 people that were evacuated as a precaution have been allowed back into the area.
