PATERSON - A cow that was loose on the streets of Paterson last night will not be sent back to the slaughterhouse after all.

The 800-pound bovine escaped from a slaughterhouse in Paterson Tuesday night and ran back and forth on River Street. Paterson Animal Control Chief John De Cando says the cow crossed Presidential Boulevard and stopped at a set of new basketball courts. The animal was eventually caught and tranquilized.

Now, News 12 New Jersey has been told that the cow's life will be spared. It is scheduled to be taken to a farm in upstate New York.

News 12 New Jersey is told the cow will get checked out by a vet once he gets to the animal sanctuary and will receive medical treatment if necessary.
