Court hearing set for former Middlesex county sheriff

FREEHOLD - (AP) - Former Middlesex County Sheriff JoeSpicuzzo faces an initial court appearance Tuesday.

The 65-year-old was arrested on bribery and official misconductcharges last week.

Spicuzzo is accused of selling jobs and promotions at thesheriff's office for up to $25,000 each.

Attorney General Paula Dow said Spicuzzo demanded bribes from atleast three people who were either up for a promotion or applyingfor a position as an investigator in his office.

The court appearance will take place in Freehold in MonmouthCounty.
