Allegations arise against Pearl Amboy school (4/3/15)

PERTH AMBOY - Several educators in the Perth Amboy School District are under investigation after allegations of corporal punishment at William McGinnis Middle School.

According to parents, several six-grade students who were acting unruly were forced to march around the school building and inside a staircase. During the alleged incident, the students had their bookbags on their backs.

Interim school superintendent Vivian Rodriguez was advised by the district attorney not to address the investigation during a school board meeting Thursday.

In a written statement, an attorney for the district said, “What we know for sure now is that the conduct did not involve any type of physical assault on the students."

The statement went on to say that some staff members, including Principal Myrna Garcia, were placed on administrative leave as precaution while the investigation continues.
