Cops: Dad suddenly collapses and dies, crushing and killing son

ENGLEWOOD - A young mother is dealing with heartache tonight after her young son was accidentally killed by his own father, who also died.

The accident occurred around noon in the 100 block of Lafeyette Avenue in Englewood. Allen McNeill III had just celebrated his third birthday and knew his alphabet and loved cars. Police say Allen McNeill, Jr., 53, who shared custody of the son, was supposed to drop him off to his mother, but never showed. The child's mother, Ieshia Atkinson, then called authorities who discovered the son and father both dead. Police say it appears the father suddenly collapsed and died, landing on the child and crushing him to death.

Authorities say autopsies will be performed next week on the father and son to determine the exact cause of death. Police do not suspect foul play.
